My Chicken Quilt

I have just finished a lap quilt for my mother. I plan to surprise her with it next month when I go to visit her. I had such fun making it. I had collected different chicken print fabrics for a couple of years. I use them for different little projects like my brooder hens (bags filled with field corn to be heated in the microwave and applied to aching muscles or cold feet).
For the quilt I simply sewed squares of the prints together in no particular pattern. Instead of traditional quilting stitches, I chose to sew with embroidery thread over each seam with a feather- or brier-stitch, as I think it resembles chicken tracks. In case you didn't know, you can click on a picture to get a closer look. Don't you love the polka dot roosters?
We will be in Ohio in July for another auction of antiques from my father's collection. You can see pictures on http://www.higginsauctions.com/. (Go to Auction Schedule, find Large McClenathan Auction, click on photos.) I will also get to attend a wedding while I am there, the daughter of one of my McClenathan cousins. I am looking forward to seeing family there.
