DIY Chicken Stories

I just heard about "DIY Stories" from my daughter in Portland, Oregon. "DIY Stories" means "Do It Yourself Stories." There is a coffee shop in their town where you can go and hear people tell stories. The theme is announced ahead of time and anyone can tell about an experience they have had which relates to it. For examples, the theme of "Escape and Capture" brought to light a story of a real bank robbery and one account of a free-spirited young girl who was marooned on an island by the tides for several days.
Anyone and everyone can participate, but must not use written notes, just tell their story. Seems to make for a free and hilariously enjoyable evening.

Well, I especially like to hear people tell their chicken stories. At my first "hen party" (for a Sunday School class of older ladies), I heard several "DYI" chicken stories. (I had never heard of that term before, but that's exactly what they were!) My mother-in-law told that when she was a very young girl she used to pretend she was a hen laying an egg. She would get down on a little rug and flap her wings and cluck like a hen. One time her uncle sneaked up behind her and put a real egg on the rug. When she got up, she thought she had really laid an egg!

My chicken story is about the time my neighbor girlfriend and I used to tease the rooster out in her chicken yard. He would run after us. Once we were playing with another friend, the storekeeper's daughter. We showed her how to tease the rooster and run from him. Well, we knew that she couldn't run as fast as we could--we turned and ran through the gate and closed it on her. I am not proud of the way we treated poor Emma Jo!
