My Washboard Debut!
I am so excited about my washboard! Today was the first time for me to play it at a nursing home. I was with a friend, Martin, who was playing old gospel hymns on his guitar. He showed me how to "play" my washboard.
When I first saw a fellow play one last year at a Red Hat affair, I was determined to have one. I went to Elliott's Hardware and bought a washboard and a cowbell and asked my son Wayne to put it together for me. Well, he went above and beyond my expectations. He painted it red, attached a woodblock, a small cymbal, several different bells and a wire whisk. I also have thimbles glued onto a glove for myself, to make it easier to put on and keep on the thimbles on my fingers. Now I just have to practice some more!
Notice the bottle of flowers in the background of the picture. I brought these Queen Anne's Lace wildflowers to the ladies. I have fond childhood memories of riding my bike down the road south of Claridon, Ohio, where they always grew along the road. I was so happy to see them growing along the road near my home here in Texas. It is not easy to find them here in the city of well-manicured lawns, you know.
