Giving Thanks at Thanksgiving
Walter and I just had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day with our son Wayne and wife Stacy in Austin. It was our first time to see the house they have bought there. It is located in a nice neighborhood near Roundrock. We enjoyed oohing and ahhing over the house room by room.
Stacy cooked turkey breast, dressing, potatoes, gravy, corn casserole, cranberry sauce, fruit salad, pumpkin pie--all the traditional fare--and Walter and I did not do any cooking this year! What a treat!
It couldn't have been a more perfect two days. We reported to them on our trip to Cameroon, shared our picture album/scrapbook, played Scrabble, took a walk, helped hang up Christmas lights, shopped at an antique mall, and watched Niblet, the pug, do her round-and-round-in-a-circle thing! She does that when she sees a commode flush! A couple years ago we watched her do that on Funniest Home Videos. Well, she still does it, and even if she just hears the toilet flush, she will go round and round right outside the bathroom door! She makes us laugh.
So, here are some things, some big, some small, I found myself thankful for this Thanksgiving, from A to Z:
A - Airplanes that whisk you to the other side of the world in just hours -- think about the Pilgrims whose trip across the ocean took months!
B - Blogs that inform and encourage, like Wes's and Ginger's
C - Cameroonians, who have much to teach us about life
D - My Dayspring friends (the ladies at the Dayspring Senior Facility) for their beautiful smiles!
E - Electricity
F - Finding my misplaced items
G - Grandkids! I am thankful for their safety and well-being! Mallory recently fell against a door frame and had to have stitches in her cheek. I am grateful for their finding a good doctor to sew her up!
H - Health--no aches, no pains!
I - Inlaws! I dearly love my daughters-in-law, Stacy and Leah, and my son-in-law Sean. They are the best!
J - John and Doris, my brother and wife, for faithfully looking after my mother in Ohio
K - Keys that work; Knees that bend.
L - Laughter--it's the best medicine for the soul
M - Memory! I enjoy remembering good times. I am glad I can think about them whenever I want to.
N - No-fat and low-fat items in the grocery store
O - the Option to obey God (Those who don't know God have no choice but to follow their father Satan and their own selfish desires. Christians have the ability to obey God if they want to.)
P - Promises from a Promise-Keeping God
Q - Quiet, peaceful nights
R - a Reason to celebrate Christmas, and a reason to get up every morning
S - Safety in the car and the airplane, as I have of late done more traveling than usual
T - Taste buds! Walter is rejoicing that his are back, since he lost his sense of taste for three months following a steroid shot given for his shoulder pain.
U - Underwear that's comfortable
V - Vitamins
W - Woodside Care Center in Mt. Gilead, Ohio, where my mother is getting excellent care
X - eXtra large helpings
Y - I'm glad Walter talked me into saying "Yes" when he proposed to me!
Z - Zip in my life--Jesus puts the spring in my step and the zip in my day!
