A Tribute to My Mother

The second weekend in August I flew to Ohio to visit my mother. While I was there, on August 15, she passed away at age 90. I am so blessed to have had her for all these years. The following is a special letter I had written to her some years ago. It may give you an idea of how wonderful my mother was!

March 1997

To my wonderful Mom on her 77th birthday,

Thanks, Mom, for being my mother--

For teaching me how to sew doll clothes, mix cookie dough, properly clean a room organize things, to the the truth, respect adults and work hard to finish a task.

Thank you for dressing up to go trick-or-treating with us kids, for working at the New Year's Day sale, for driving me to Bible School, for taking me with you to visit your many friends and neighbors--you knew everyone!

You are still always busy doing things for other people--thinking of the lonely neighbor, the ailing cousin, the ones less fortunate.

You keep me abreast of goings-on back home. And how many people have been cheered by finding a letter from Ivah in their mailbox!

Thank you, Mom, for being you, your own unique self.

I thank the Lord for you, Mom!

Marie.
