Another Chicken in the Bible

Sometimes I think I know it all! I thought I knew of every mention of chickens in the Bible. Well, recently I discovered one I hadn't noticed before. Here is the story of how it was brought to my attention:

We have made friends with the Nomo family in Cameroon. Simeon Nomo is a native pastor who works with our son Wes there. He was a guest in our home when he came over to the States with Wes on one occasion. That's when we got to know this precious brother. Well, he honors us by calling us Mother and Dad. When we visited Cameroon we were invited to his home. Simeon and Therese have three lovely children, Danielle, Jonas and Javier. When Wes came home on furlough this summer he brought with him three home-made cards for Walter and me from Simeon's children. Each child had written us a friendly greeting and drawn with crayon a picture of their country's red, green and yellow flag, and a picture of chickens for me. On her card Danielle had written out the words of Jesus from Mark 13:35:

Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming—in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning—.

What a great reminder and beautiful thought--Jesus may return for us at anytime, maybe in the evening, maybe at midnight, or anytime the rooster crows! Jesus says to be ready and watchful at all times. You know, we have always been taught that Jesus is coming soon. Now I am over 65 years old and He has not appeared yet, but I understand that his coming is imminent and I must be ready. Even if He does not come in my lifetime, I need to be ready for Him because for me the end of the world could be anytime--no one knows what lies around the corner. It could be my time on earth is shorter than I think. So I will be watching.... Thanks, Danielle!
